Ford Foundation Building
'The Secret Garden of Midtown East'
Take a break from the congestion and chaos of Midtown and step into a sub-tropical garden. Built in the 1960's, the Ford Foundation is a twelve story building located on 43rd Street between 2nd Avenue and Tudor City Place. The atrium has entrances on both 42nd and 43rd Street. Fresh air, lush green trees and the sound of trickling water from the fountains will surround you in this building sized atrium. Located in the center of the atrium is a fountain that serves as the main focal point of the garden. Want to make a wish? According to the sign above the fountain, "Make a wish for the children of the world." All coins tossed in the pond benefit UNICEF's United Nations Children Fund which works for children's rights, survival, development and protection. Whether you visit the space to unwind, to have your lunch, or to read your favorite book, don't leave town without taking refuge in the peace and tranquility of this masterpiece.
